If you have tickets to shows July 3 or after, or have questions, please email [email protected]
Now entering its 15th season, Riverside Theatre in the Park stands out as a landmark professional theatre festival among the Iowa City area's vibrant summer arts scene.
This year's shows are Othello by William Shakespeare, directed by Theodore Swetz, and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield, directed by Ron Clark. Both productions are performed at the Riverside Festival Stage in Iowa City's Lower City Park. Map of City Park
Shakespeare’s Othello is an emotionally gripping thriller of jealousy, passion and revenge. The story explores race, betrayal and politics through the tumultuous romance of the military general Othello, his wife Desdemona and Othello’s secret rival, Iago. Othello is a must-see classic for all fans of the stage.

Called by The Guardian, “Rollicking, fast-moving and hilarious,” The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised] is a full-power, energetic romp through Shakespeare covering all 37 plays in 97 minutes – with some creative editing, of course! This parody of the classic plays includes modern pop-culture references, audience engagement, and improvisation- enough to make any Shakespeare lover, or hater, laugh out loud.
Riverside Theatre in the Park (also known as RTP and previously known as the Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival) is the summer season of Riverside Theatre, a resident professional company now in its 33rd year. Riverside Theatre presents a full season of works in its intimate facility on Gilbert Street. The summer season takes place at the outdoor Riverside Festival Stage in Iowa City’s Lower City Park.
The Globe-inspired Festival Stage, set against a bluff and adjacent to a willow-ringed reflecting pond, has great natural acoustics and is very performer friendly for the trained actor; no amplification is used. The theatre facility has air-conditioned dressing rooms, permanent audience seating for 472, and an adjacent Green Show stage and pavilion.
Riverside Theatre in the Park shows are performed by a professional and apprentice actors. Performers come to RTP from across the country including New York, Minneapolis and Kansas City.
